    I have a new Camera … again

    Canon PowerShot SX120 IS
    Canon PowerShot SX120 IS

About a week ago, I caved and bought a new piece of technology. Yes, as the title of this post suggests it is a new camera. Not just any camera it is the Canon PowerShot SX120 IS. Although not that much better than my S5 IS it is really the form factor that made me buy it. On the downside first, it is a smaller lens and only mono audio of the video, I can’t see the viewfinder for taking great one try self-portraits and I can’t set voice memos for the photos. On the good side, it only takes 2 AA batteries, and it is a 10 megapixel with a 10x optical zoom (my old cam is 12x).

If you are wondering what the pictures look like, the strawberry waffles were taken with this camera. This has pushed me to update my SnapShots gallery that it is now run by WordPress and Gallery is about to be shut off, I just have the 2 largest albums to go through.

  • My Logitech M-BJ58 2000-2008

I just tried to change the LED in my mouse to a Blue LED. Let’s just say it did not quite go as planned. After putting the LED inplace I plugged it in and worked but as I put the clip back in I somehow chipped the printed circut on top. I was thinking that possibly I could use a small wire and follow the circut down further to the next solder point. I miss my mouse.

  • Dead or alive…

I was just uptown and thinking about the talk of recent in Saint John about the growth and prosperity about to hit the city. I don’t really want to be a neigh-say-er but I just can’t imagine Saint John ever living up to its potential. The mentality of the people is one of the biggest drawbacks. It is the greatness of the “littlest city” syndrome the keeps the rose colored glasses, from seeing the realities the global economy is going to be in recession very shortly and I feel that the current growth can sustain and are set the repeat the last boom “Urban Renewal” / “Super Block” / Millidgeville / Shopping Centres projects from the 1960’s – early 80’s.

  • I got a new toy.

    I got a new toy.

    I am truely wowed!

I know the pic has caught your attention, and you are wondering what my new toy is. Well without further ado here it comes… Well maybe now… okay it is the Canon PowerShot S5 IS. This thing is the most amazing piece of technology I have ever owned. I’m sorry MacBook, but can you do panoramas, change colours of items in pictures and HD videos? Okay maybe you can but still, the camera is truly cool.

  • I still need a new phone

Why do the cell phone companies make it so hard on you to find a phone that suits “you.” I have been on the hunt now for the predecessor to my Nokia 6620 that is now cloning in on a four-year old design of a phone. I wasn’t even lucky enough to have a battery covered by the recall since that is the main issue I am having with it.

My phone runs off of the S60 second generation Symbian OS, and I really like it, now if I could just find a GSM phone with the 3rd Gen. But nobody seems to offer the thing, sure some people play music on their phones but I have an iPod Nano so that is not really important to me, neither is cell phone gaming, but I like the option to install whatever programs I want as the Symbian OS has loads of programming that in most cases is higher quality than a lot of what you can get from the Java that most phones offer.

I also like that GSM is more secure as it never goes back to analog mode, and the ability to move my contacts from phone to phone easily on the SIM card, and the global nature of the GSM technology. So CDMA/1X-EVDO is not really an option.

Anyways that is my rant. I really like the Blackberry Pearl but a $35 data plan for 4MB is crazy.

    Kiwanis Auction – 2007

    2007 Kiwanis TV Auction

Here is a sampling of the graphics I created for the 2007 Lancaster Kiwanis TV Auction. This is the second time that they let me create new graphics for this show although last time they did not look as good as this one. I went for a Shopping Channel look. Throughout the approval process, they remained mostly unchanged. The original draft had a blue background though.

  • WWWeeee….. I’m one of those shoppers.

Okay so I thought that I would post a YouTube video that I think is killer! But on another note on what I just realized I am an “Impulsive A**hole Bargain Shopper”. Today at work I learned that a shipment of “on-sale” Miracle Whip came in and customers were buying lots of it. Knowing how fast it ran out on Saturday I could not help myself but buy the limit of 2 bottles. Now I don’t really eat miracle whip too much, a bottle half the size would last me 2 months, but I could not stop myself (I just couldn’t) I just had to buy it. Knowing full well that it probably would not get eaten, kinda like the soup and Kraft Dinner from 2 months ago that are still in my cupboard uneaten.

I always laughed at those people so it is really depressing to realize I’m one.

  • I need a new phone!

Okay so my phone is dying, a very slow death and it is time in my budget to finally get a new one. I’ve been looking for one for that last year it is now been 3 months since my current contract expired. And my battery life is now well under 24 hours. 🙁

Anyways I think I found one that actually does what I need in a phone, e-mail, excel, browse the web, and make phone calls. This one I like because it is easier to type on. The Blackberry Pearl Red.

Also with one of these I could even post to this blog easier than I could with my current phone the Nokia 6620. And I have not been able to find a new battery. The only thing is that I will have to probably wait until September.

The only thing that is not good is that it looks like my very first Cell Phone from back in 2003 the Motorola c333, with the red and silver Roots Face-plate that I had to return in under a week, for an even worse phone the Motorola v66.

I guess that is it for now, seeing that I need to go to work tonight.

Leave comments I really love to read them and wished at times that I would get more of them. If you are reading a RSS of this on Facebook you can leave a reply there too!

  • All about Melanie

You would think that it calling Rogers and talking to the voice automation is bad. Then you have never had the pleasure of meeting, Melanie, the inbred country cousin that guards the pay-as-you-go phone line. This computer does not even recognize the common commands that you can use with other auto-gatekeepers. And what is worse is that every Rogers call centre rat is trained to sick Melanie on you.

Why can Rogers use the same system as every other service for Pay-as-you-go. At least that person has half a brain to understand what you want, and not listing everything.

  • Second Life: Virtually Useless

The tech arena can feel like a cesspool. One recent spam message I received rhymed ‘hag’ with ’shag’; another advertised images of straight guys pleasuring gay guys for cash. Meanwhile, the onslaught of worms and scams never lets up — I could form a museum of virtual garbage.

  • There Philippines

From the beginnings of time every Therian has wondered if there was intelligent life beyond the Planet There. As it turns out there now is. Earlier this week Michael Wilson announced the launch of in partnership with Groovenet, There Philippines. There Philippines opened this week as an Alpha Release with very controlled testing being done.Â

Many of you readers are curious about what is this new place is like, and to be honest it is identical in look to our There. But the people are very different. We newcomers to the US their service have been taught the ropes on what behavior is well accepted. This is not the case in There Philippines has a totally different social and geographical dynamic. In general with all the members coming from the Philippines there is a lot of conversation taking place in Tagalog and English, the official language of the Philippines. In addition there is a very strong social dynamic that is forming. Everyone is friends in this world. To be quite honest There Philippines is like an Eden to some of the problems that we meet in the everyday life of a Therian.

Since this new there is based out of the Philippines there is a very different economic model then the world we know so that means that this version of there has a different system to handle the purchasing of Tbux. In this version of There you begin by creating an account on groovenet.ph from there, there are 3 payment systems currently since this is in Alpha Testing only one is currently available. This site handles all the logging in to the system and the Buy Tbux pages. This has been very effective so far in keeping the There Philippines from becoming over run. From my point of view not being a US resident it is inconvenient at times to exchange money to a US currency, this is part of what makes There Philippines great.

The President of Groovenet, Inc., and avie named Cole hangs out all night with the Philippi Therians in Tiki Cove Plaza there are usually several chat groups formed around there. They tend to mostly like to stay there at this time, but there are several people that like to explore the world and visit the cool There “Landmarks” and love to see over the next ridge. One example in an avie named Faith; we have spent the last week going from Maidenflight in Ootay to the far reaches Astrology Island. The worlds are so totally identical right down to the infamous terrain spit on Mt. NeNe.

So until next week, Ako po ay taos-pusong nagpapasalamat.

  • My Guide to Gratuties

    1. Never Tip for meals less than $20 after taxes.
    2. Tip 5% if your appetizer comes before you finish you first drink.
    3. Tip 5% if they got your meal right.
    4. Tip 5% if you waited less than 3 minutes after you main course to be asked if you would like some coffee, the dessert, or your bill.

These are my standard rules for restaurants for taxi cabs I only tip if the cabbie takes a direct route on a meter.

  • Final 2 Days in TO

OK, well the past two days have been quite interesting. On Friday I went to see the Casa Loma, Baldwin Steps, CBC Building, CHUM City and the Bata Shoe Museum. I never thought I would make it to the top of the Baldwin steps I have never seen so many steps in my LIFE!
The CHUM Building was a pinnacle moment of the day. The CHUM City Store had more stuff than you can believe! It is 10 times the size of the CBC one. The coolest thing about the CHUM City building is the CityPulse24 Truck coming out the side of the building about 15 metres above the ground with the wheels spinning.

Speaking of the CHUM building, Friday was one of the saddest days I had in Toronto since it was the Last day of Star Trek: Enterprise I was quite impressed with how the series ended it was quite upholding for Star Trek.

Yesterday I went to see the Hockey Hall of Fame, It was quite impressive and much larger than I had expected. It was quite erie to see to see Bay Street on a Saturday last time I was there on Thursday at about noon I almost go run over by a wild stamped of people. On a Saturday at noon… Dead!

After the Hockey Hall of Fame I was headed down Younge Street to Front Street to Union Station. Then as a crossed the street to Union Station there was several gentlemen standing on the corner yelling “Need a Ticket?” I walked by and after 15 seconds I turned around and asked him “Tickets for what?” and he was nice and explained that it was tickets for the Toronto Rock game at the Air Canada Centre (ACC). Knowing how much I love Lacrosse I started to run to the ACC. I bought tickets to the nose-bleed section for $25.75 and a Jersey for $199 + Tax and really enjoyed the game. I think a pro-Lacrosse team would do well in Saint John, much better then a Junior Hockey team.
Following the lacrosse game I went to the Eaton Centre and bought a clip for my Cell Phone and had my hair cut and hi-lighted red. Then I took a walk down Younge St. for some window shopping.

  • Trip to Toronto 2

Before I get started about what I did yesterday, what is it with Alcohol trucks this week the beer truck yesterday, and now today a vodka truck over turned in Hamilton.

Anyways I went shopping on Bay St. in the morning yesterday, then went back to my hotel room to drop it off. Then I was heading to the zoo, but then I realized I left my Phone in the hotel room so I did not go to the zoo, but since I was all the way out at the Kennedy Station anyways I took the Scarbough RT subway to the end of the line.

Scarborough really reminds me of Saint John in all reality, there are very few sky rise buildings, lots of trees in the middle of town. The not so crisp smell, and about as clean looking. If I moved to Toronto Scarbrough may be one of the first places I consider.

I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to visit every subway station. I gave it a break after returning from Kippling station and went for supper at Subway in the entertainment district.

I went to see the musical Evita last night it was an amazing show. I think I am starting to develop a liking to the performing arts. It was very well acted and very well choreographed. I was sitting pretty much in the dead centre of the second balcony in the Prince of Wales Auditorium. It is almost as nice as the Royal Alexandria but lacks the old historic look. I think I might see some more theatre when I return home to Saint John.

After the show I decided to finish the final leg of visiting every subway station. At 11pm exactly I arrived in the final one Downsview. There is a large mall up there that I might go check out tomorrow called the Yorkdale Mall.
