When I first read it I was a little afraid that my country had enough of me and were all out to get me. Then I read a little more on the issue. It was really shocking to me to learn that my initials are also the acronym for Child, Early and Forced Marriage. According to the Government of Canada the following stats are true:
Every year, it is estimated that 15 million girls—some as young as five years old—are forced into marriage.
Over 700 million women alive today were married as children.
One in every three girls in the developing world is married by the age of 18. One in nine marries before the age of 15.
Complications in childbirth are the leading cause of death among girls between the ages of 15 and 19 in the developing world.
I really agree with the 10,000 tweets on the issue that this is something that everyone should know about and work towards putting an immediate end to. If you want to read more on the issue there are good links on the bottom of the government’s webpage on the issue
Well hello to all my readers, including a certain someone who thinks/insists that I keep writing more.
For this June I am going to shock everyone and have a new post for every day of the month. June is also anti-procrastination month so I will also not be waiting and posting the remaining 29 posts on the 30th. Though that does not stop you from waiting until then to read them. I am also attempting to complete a Photo-a-day challenge. If you follow me on twitter and Instagram (cefm) then you will get to see them all. In the interest of my blog readers, I will post them all here in a gallery on the 30th.
Quite often lately I get comments that get always mark as spam and e-mails asking permission to exchange links. Generally, the best approach is to write great content and you will get linked to. If you like content from CEFM.ca than link to it. Just remember all my content is protected by the Creative Commons license, except the portfolio which is not creative commons.
I do approve and show all trackbacks to good articles that link me. I also generally check the sources in the logs of sites that refer traffic to me. Currently wordpress.org and saintjohnshawn.com are the biggest referrers. My most popular posts are my 2008 Saint John Idol photos and the NB Sports Sites List.
As you can see CEFM.ca has a fresh clean new look. It is a metaphor for things happening in my life now. I am preparing for the bittersweet life of Academia. I am returning to UNBSJ in a little over a week only this time I have a plan. I am intending to complete my BA with an Economics Major and History minor.
I am also going to take a stab at the LSAT next month. I haven’t started studying yet for it. C’est la vie of the eternal procrastinator.
I am also happy to announce that the goals I have set to lose weight are moving in the right direction. I have not been able to get to the gym this week, my old back injury from High School just came back. However, it did a big snap that really hurt Wednesday while running for the bus and is tender but it feels like it repositioned in the right way for the first time in a long time. I should be able to head back next week.
I’m considering moving my Gallery section to Gallery3 however it is not ready yet and there are no themes at the current moment that meet my PHP knowledge level to modify to the new WordPress theme that I am using now.
We have taken over a thousand photos over the four days. Instead of choosing the best I am posting all the “in focus” photos for the weekend on flicker. If you see a photo you like and want the original high resolution .jpg file for free you may e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to comment on the photos as well so
everyone can know what you think if the photos.
